just when

just when I decide that I’m over winter
that I’ve had enough already
when I roll my eyes
and clench my jaw at yet another
sub zero forecast

you go and get all sparkly
and shiny
and fresh
and new

you make me open my eyes
and study this big old beautiful world
in wide-eyed wonder

you make me catch my breath
that I didn’t realize I’d been holding
you take me by surprise
when I didn’t realize I really really needed that

you fill me with gratitude
and awe
and joy

you’re raining down diamonds
and putting crystals
on every last branch
you don’t miss a thing

I see how that sycamore
stretches it whiteness
up into the brilliant blue

just when I thought
I’d had enough
I realize
I can’t get enough
of this
can’t get enough sparkly and shiny
and white and blue
and new and fresh
and you
